Production & Delivery

Every rug is made to order in M’rirt, Morocco. Production time depends on the selected size, with larger rugs requiring more time. Once your rug is complete, it is shipped insured with tracking. Contact us before ordering for an estimated production timeline for your chosen size.

Returns & Support

Because each rug is made to order, returns are accepted only if your rug arrives damaged or differs from your order. Contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos, and our team will assist you promptly.

Materials & Care

Hand-knotted from natural Moroccan wool and finished by hand. Vacuum gently without a rotating brush, blot spills immediately, and use professional rug cleaning when needed. Rotate the rug occasionally to maintain even wear. Light shedding is natural at first.

Choosing Your Rug Size

For a living room, choose a rug large enough for at least the front legs of the furniture to rest on it. For a dining room, allow approximately 24 in / 60 cm beyond each side of the table so chairs remain on the rug when pulled out. Unsure which size fits your space? Contact us with your room dimensions.

Custom Sizes

Need a different size? We can hand-knot this rug to your required dimensions. Contact us with the width and length you need, and we will confirm the price and estimated production time before you order.

DAMMA is a checkered Beni Mrirt rug, hand-knotted in M’rirt from soft Moroccan wool. Its bold black-and-ivory grid creates a graphic rhythm across the surface, while the dense wool pile softens the contrast and brings warmth, texture, and balance to contemporary interiors.

Each DAMMA rug is woven knot by knot by Khadija and other women artisans using a traditional vertical loom. The wool is hand-spun, colored with plant-based pigments, and finished with hand-plaited cotton fringe along the two short ends.

The squares are counted by hand as the rug grows on the loom, creating subtle shifts in spacing and alignment. These small irregularities distinguish hand-knotting from machine production and give every DAMMA rug its own character. Natural variations in pattern, tone, and dimensions are part of the craft.

DAMMA takes its name from the Arabic word associated with the traditional game of checkers, long played in Moroccan cafés and homes. Its alternating squares translate that familiar rhythm into a distinctive wool design.

Made By

Khadija and the Women of M'rirt

Khadija leads a group of women weavers in M'rirt, a small town in the Middle Atlas mountains where the Beni Mrirt rug takes its name. The collective was founded by her mother and aunts, who learned to weave as girls and have been weaving for over forty years. They specialize in soft hand-knotted Beni Mrirt rugs, made with wool from sheep raised in the surrounding hills and dyed with plants gathered from the valley. Each rug takes between three weeks and three months to weave, depending on size and complexity.

The Details

Hand-Knotted in Morocco

Every Wool Heritage rug is hand-knotted in the Middle Atlas mountains by a small group of Berber women using techniques passed down through generations. Yours is one of one. No two rugs are identical, and slight variations in pattern, color, and dimensions are part of the craft.

Plush Pile

Our rugs are knotted with a soft medium pile that's plush enough to sink your feet into. If you'd prefer a custom pile height for your space, send us a note before we start your rug and we'll work with you on the right depth.

Tassels

Traditional Moroccan rugs are finished with hand-plaited cotton tassels on the two short ends. Each tassel is twisted and knotted by hand, which means lengths and thickness vary slightly across the row. The natural irregularity is the signature of a real handwoven rug, not a flaw.

No Tassels

Prefer a cleaner finish? Your rug can be made without tassels, leaving neatly hand-finished edges for a more minimal look. Select Without tassels above when choosing your rug.

OUR PROCESS

Made the Slow Way

Each Wool Heritage rug begins with hand-spun wool from the Atlas mountains, dyed with plant-based pigments, and knotted by hand on a traditional loom. Depending on the size, a single rug takes weeks to months to weave. Once finished, it is washed, sun-dried on wooden racks, and brushed by hand. Made the way it has been made for over a hundred years.

MEASURED IN MONTHS
A single rug is woven knot by knot over weeks or months by women who learned the craft from their mothers, who learned it from theirs.
